VIOLIN POSTURE (concert rest, playing, bowing)

 

 

 

1) Sitting Posture- sit on the right corner edge of your chair, feet flat on the floor, and

    straight back.

 

2) Concert Rest - while sitting, hold violin upright on the left knee.

 

3) Playing Posture- bring your violin up to left shoulder. It should come straight out with the metal of the chin rest against the neck. Side of chin should fit snuggly.

 

4) Pizzicato (plucking)- put the tip of your right hand thumb against the finger board and bring the tip of your first finger around to the top of the string and pizzicato the correct notes using the flash cards.

 

5) Fingers on the Finger Board

    - Remember your bubble & ALWAYS KEEP A STRAIGHT WRIST

    - First align your (left hand) thumb between the 1st & 2nd piece of tape (big gap)

    - The tip of the thumb should be level to the finger board from the side of the neck

    - Twist your hand around so the fingers can curl up around the neck

    - Once done check to see if you have a whole between your thumb and first finger

       under the neck

 

6) Bowing

    -  Remember your bubble

    -  Curve your 2 middle fingers around the top of the leather grip at the first knuckle.

    -Then curl your Left Hand thumb to the bottom of the bow grip and  so you are

      making "C" like shape.

    - While keeping your Right Hand steady tilt the tip of the bow up 45 degrees with

       your Left Hand.

    - Curl your index finger across the top of the bow between the first and second

      knuckle.

    - Bring your pinky over the dot or frog - it should lay on top of the stick.
