0) Before playing anything else. Work on straight bows - bow stays parallel to the bridge. ON EACH STRING 10 TIMES EACH!!! THEN BOW SCALES AND WATCH THE BOW!!!

 

1) Scales & Arpeggios (Half Notes & SAY NOTES OUT LOUD!!!)

    C-Scale - 2 Octaves                                        C-Arpeggio (C, E, G)

    G-Scale (F#) - 1 Octaves                                G-Arpeggio (G, B, D)

    D-Scale (F#, C#) 1 Octave                              D-Arpeggio (D, F#, A)

    A-Scale (F#, C#, G#) - 1 Octaves                   A-Arpeggio (A, C#, E)

 

2) Muller Rusch - Lesson 14-15

 

3) Solos & Etudes - pg. 8 (Etude 13)

 

4) Suzuki - WEEK OFF

 

5) Theory - pg. 29

 

 

1) Sitting Posture- sit on the right corner edge of your chair, feet flat on the floor, and

    straight back.

 

2) Concert Rest - while sitting, hold violin upright on the left knee & hand gripping the

    body of the violin with your left hand.

 

3) Playing Posture- bring your violin up to left shoulder. It should come straight out

    with the chin rest against the neck. Side of chin should fit snuggly. The violin will be

    tilted at 45 degrees. (You should be able to hold the violin with out any hands if 

    done properly.)

 

4) Pizzicato (plucking)- With the violin up in playing posture, put the tip of your right

    hand thumb against the finger board and bring the tip of your first finger around to

    the top of the strings and pizzicato the G-D-A-E Strings. (the G-String is the fattest 

     string)

 

5) Fingers on the Finger Board

    - ALWAYS KEEP A STRAIGHT WRIST

    - First align your (left hand) thumb between the 1st & 2nd piece of tape (big gap)

    - The tip of the thumb should be level to the finger board from the side of the neck

    - Twist your hand around so the fingers can curl up around the neck

    - Once done check to see if you have a whole between your thumb and first finger

       under the neck

    -Be sure to keep your fingers curved at all times and use the tips of the fingers. (the

      finger nail should NOT be touching the string)

 

6) Bowing

    -Then curl your Left Hand thumb to the bottom of the bow grip and  so you are

      making "C" like shape.

    -  Curve your 2 middle fingers around the top of the leather grip at the first knuckle.

    - Tilt your right hand to the right so the index finger makes contact with the stick.

    - Curl and bring out your index finger across the top of the bow between the first

      and second knuckle.

    - Slide out your pinky over the dot or frog - it should lay on top of the stick.
